Vegan ACT Bake Sale and BBQ Fundraiser for Signal Hill Sanctuary – 21 May 2016

Signal Hill Sanctuary is a place of refuge for exploited, abused, neglected and abandoned animals generally regarded as ‘farm animals’. It is set on 200 acres of pasture and natural bushland near the Yass River in NSW.
It exists to provide refuge, safety and a voice to farmed animals suffering, or at risk from, exploitation, abuse, neglect or abandonment. This sanctuary is run by one amazing human, Kris, and we are so glad to be able to connect the Vegan ACT community with her invaluable work.

All funds raised went to Signal Hill Sanctuary! If you would like to donate directly to Signal Hill now, please go to https://www.facebook.com/SignalHillSanctuary/app/190322544333196/

Garage Sale and Vegan Sausage Sizzle for A Place of Peace Sanctuary – 2 July 2016

Garage Sale and Sausage Sizzle

By Sia Brook

Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported the previous fundraising garage sales (from late 2015 to now). So far, we’ve raised over $1500 for local sanctuaries and aim to have the next one for Whisker Woods Sanctuary later in the year. The garage sales not only raise much needed funds to provide care for the rescued animals and in turn support these sanctuaries to further educate the public, we also hand out sanctuary flyers with all purchases and often have conversations about veganism. Please think about donating any unneeded items, thank you. For the animals.

Vegan ACT’s A Poultry Place Sanctuary Autumn Working Bee – 29 May 2016

Vegan ACT Working Bee at A Poultry Place, Autumn 2016

Today Vegan ACT was lucky to host a working bee for local sanctuary, A Poultry Place.

The volunteers raked and wheelbarrowed, cleaned shelters, laid down fresh bedding, turned a paddock of branches into firewood and more, while Bede got around to jobs that required his attention. It was rewarding to know we’d helped make that to do list a little bit shorter.

Thanks to Ali, Mark, Rob, Ashleigh, Anthony, Shree, Gareth, Sue and both Michelles for volunteering today, to lend a hand for these animals, including the amazing Bede: the Human of A Poultry Place.

Huge thanks from us for everyone who contributed. in all the ways you did. The money raised will go to hay and animal feed, which is of higher need again thanks to the extended hot dry weather. A tremendous thanks to everyone who made the Vegan ACT working bee at A Poultry Place such a productive and memorable day on Sunday!

The tireless Bede Carmody welcomed Reeni, Maria, Veronica, Francine,Tracey, Kane, Gareth and yours truly for a day of shed cleaning and rebedding, fence mending, painting, tidying up and doting on and admiring the beautiful

residents of the sanctuary. We couldn’t have imagined a more uplifting and empowering way to spend a day.

If this looks like your cup of tea, please let me know via contact@veganact.org.au or PM Michelle And-Gareth and we’ll make sure you hear about upcoming sanctuary volunteering opportunities!

PS thanks to the lovely Morgyn Benstead, Fiona Walsh, Naomi Molineux and Sara Flint who put in a huge effort at the Little Oak working bee a couple of months ago, and my sincere apologies for not getting around to posting about the amazing day we had!
