Donate to A Place of Peace Sanctuary Hay Appeal

Cows-Eating-Hay-1000x667

Original post by Tamsin Dean Einspruch

Howdy folks! Winter is coming… to an end. Soon spring will be here and so will fresh grass for the beautiful residents of A Place Of Peace who will be chomping down on that rather than hay. Unfortunately they still need quite a bit of hay to keep their stomachs happy. If you wouldn’t mind, could you perhaps donate 10$ to the winter hay appeal? If everyone on this page donated only 10$ you’d put a massive dent in the hay bill, if everyone donated 15$, we’d almost reach our goal! 20$, and we’d surpass it!
Thanks for checking this out folks :3 The cows, sheep, horse, and goat people of a Place of Peace thank you for every donation we receive!  Go to:  http://www.deeppeacetrust.com/projects/winter-hay-appeal/

Donate to help 150 chicks rescued from certain death

On 19 July 2016, Animal Liberation NSW and Aussie Farms released the first-ever Australian footage of male chicks being ground-up alive as waste products of the egg industry (www.EggsExposed.com.au).

Two days later in an action organised by Aussie Farms, around 100 activists converged on the facility near Bendigo, Victoria, where the industry-standard practice had been filmed, with 21 entering the property to shut down the macerator and draw attention to the inherent cruelty of the egg industry.

Over 150 male chicks were rescued from certain death and will now live long, happy lives with experienced carers. If you’d like to help cover the substantial cost of this (food, vet bills, housing), please contribute to the fundraising campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/2g9vna2c

Donate much needed funds to ‘Our Animal Rescue Place’ (OARP) run by Vegans near Melbourne

Our Animal Rescue Place

Original Post by Stacie Michelle

There’s over one thousand vegans in here for the animals, there is no way we can allow this sanctuary to close!! This is the exact reason we are vegan, for the animals with no voice and these surviving animals need our help!!!

As a community we can bring new restaurants into the spotlight, get Frys restocked in supermarkets, name and shame bad business – we can make a difference for OARPI and their 50 animals.

We all dream of having our own animal sanctuary but the reality is, it is so much work and money, which is why there are very few out there..

Please spread the word and help with a small monthly donation.
Imagine if we all donated $5 a month..

This is their website to set up a monthly donation:  http://www.oarpinc.org/

Sign the EggsExposed.com.au Petition

EggsExposed.com.au:  The issues revealed in our investigation are inherent to egg production across Australia and the entire world. In addition to the male chicks being killed shortly after birth, and the females being painfully de-beaked, the females are then sent to live in cramped, filthy conditions in sheds with tens of thousands of other birds, and killed at just 18 months of age when their production of eggs slows. Egg farming will always be cruel – the most effective thing you can do to end all of this is to simply stop eating eggs and encourage others to do the same, by sharing the above video with them.

Please also sign our petition below, asking the Australian egg industry to stop the mass killing of day-old male chicks.

Sign petition to call off plan to cull kangaroos in Victoria

Rescued Joey at Kangaroo SanctuaryToday a permit was issued on land next door to the Pastoria East Wildlife Shelter . The department refused to tell the Pastoria East Wildlife Shelter how many kangaroos would be destroyed. The shelter has offered to build a fence and to help move kangaroos off the property nightly if need be, but DELWP ignored this and issued the permit despite their policy that all non lethal methods be exhausted before a destruction permit is issued and or a permit is only issued as a last resort however this did not take place. Some of the kangaroos at risk of being shot under the issued permit were victims of the state governments Lancefield prescribed burns gone wrong, that burned down houses and where hundreds of kangaroos, wombats, possums and gliders were burnt or subsequently euthanased due to horrific injury. Many kangaroos were also rescued by MRWN and a number of them ended up at the Pastoria East Wildlife shelter. DELWP even asked if they could take ‘feel good’ pics of these victims with their wildlife officers after the fires. Our community has generously donated for their care, rehabilitation and release back to the wild. The Pastoria East Wildlife Shelter is situated in a conservation zone in the Macedon Ranges and has volunteered a free service to our community for injured and orphaned wildlife for over 20 years. HOW YOU CAN HELP – with a simple phone call or email! Its vital that you let Mary-Anne Thomas MP for Macedon know that you object to this permit being issued for any or all of the above but most importantly that all non lethal methods were NOT explored, non lethal options were ignored and a permit was issued with full knowledge that a wildlife shelter was next door in a conservation zone. Sign petition to protect native flying foxes

Flying FoxesGustavo Adolfo Araya, Original Post 6 May 2016

When bats are dispersed and they have infants, mothers will try to save their young and many fall along the way.

This needs to be supported guys please. Sign and share.

20% of the complete fruit bat population faces dispersion and decimation because vocal members of the Bateman’s community feel inconvenienced. They have demanded their council to push for relocation and will be pushing their views again on the 16th in Bateman’s bay soldiers hall. No relocation effort has been successful except for one where the bats moved a few hundred meters. None of them have been good for the endangered flying foxes population. Make a stand. Help the flying foxes and let the few loud voices in the community know Australia is watching.

This petition is to Ministers Hunt, Speakman, Constance, and Councillor Brown to decisively end the persecution of the native flying fox colony in Bateman’s Bay, and ensure that they are protected in accordance with Federal law due to their status as a Protected Species on the road to extinction.

Donate to replace equipment seized by Police from Animal Activist, Dori Kiss

A message from Dori Kiss:

My name is Dori Kiss and I am an Animal Rights Advocate.
Back in June 2015, I received a call from police saying they were about to execute a search warrant on my home. I rushed home, where my two little frightened dogs were, to find approx. a dozen police officers, including the riot squad, and was informed my home will be searched in relation to complaints from pig farmers.
During this search, police went through every inch of my home and seized a number of items including my laptop, mobile phones, navigation systems, cameras and  other computer related equipment all of which I need in my day to day life for which I do not have the money to replace.
I am now facing charges which could result in jail time for allegedly helping expose the horrendous cruelty that animals suffer  when they are born into ‘food production’ farms.
Your donations will help me replace the equipment that was seized by the police, help me pay for transport and accomodation when I attend court to face these charges during hearings that are 4 hrs drive from my home and for babysitting costs for my two little dogs when I am in court.
Any donation, no matter how big or small would be greatly appreciated by myself and my two fur babies, Honey and Mindy. I am not one to ask for money, but at this stage, I have no other choice.
Thank you and please remember, compassion is not a crime.

Take action against Rodeos – Written by Little Oak Sanctuary

Words and images by Little Oak Sanctuary

“The immorality of rodeos extends to the arrogance of the riders and their attitude to the animals, and to the way the audience is demeaned by watching such a tawdry spectacle.” Veterinarian, on attending an Australian rodeo.

Early in November, we went along to the Bungendore Rodeo to bear witness to what the animals endure, and share their plight with the public.

Rodeos are strongly opposed by the RSPCA and are indeed widely condemned by all animal protection organisations.

Whilst we certainly appreciate how important for rural communities to come together and support each other, we disagree that this should come at the price of invoking fear – or a fight or flight response from animals for the sole purpose of entertainment.

We have attended several local rodeos ourselves in order to witness first-hand what happens at these events. We have witnessed the fear and distress of the animals, many horses showed stressed facial expressions (extended upper lip, widened nostrils, lips drawn back, tail squeezed in, tensed muzzle, which suggest a negative emotional condition ), we have seen calves and steers having their tails twisted to ensure they exit the chute into the arena where they will be pulled backwards into the air before being body slammed to the ground. We’ve seen excessive electric goading of bulls prior to them entering the arena. We’ve seen horses so distressed by the flank strap that they continue bucking, crashing head first into the fencing before a steward is able to release the strap.Horses with a wide-open mouth were also observed, which has to be attributed to the described stressed facial expressions. From an animal protection point of view, the flank strap has to be seen as a cause of suffering (stress, anxiety, fear) and as a potential cause of pain.

At this current event we saw much of the same, however we also saw something that we had not seen before, namely the “Wild Pony Race” where three men try to overpower a desperate, terrified pony – purely to create a spectacle for the audience. (Images attached).

An expert addressing the Wild Horse/Pony Event from the “Expert opinion regarding rodeo events in the Federal Republic of Germany from a legal1, ethological and ethical perspective” states:

“It was absolutely impossible to see the sporting aspect of this discipline, as it was apparent that the sole objective was to force the horse to do spectacular stunts for the spectators’ entertainment. The spectators are given the impression that it takes several men to “tame a wild horse“ (“wild horses fighting against men power“). Apart from the high injury risk for the horses, events that have men fighting against animals violate the established set of values for the handling of animals and cannot be tolerated anymore these days.”

As it turns out the ponies taking place in this event at Bungendore Rodeo were not wild horses. They were in fact, well bred hackney ponies, several of whom had been broken to harness, several others halter broken. Why anyone would subject such valuable horses to this form of treatment and threat of potential injury is beyond our comprehension, but goes to show that horses don’t have to be ‘wild’ to be terrified by this event.

When the Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association became aware this event had taken place they were apparently very upset and are now investigating the inclusion of this event at Bungendore Rodeo as are NSW RSPCA and Animals Australia. The Bungendore Rodeo committee perhaps knew this event would be controversial, having omitted it from the program, advertising it only as a “novelty pony ride”.

It’s also worth considering the welfare codes that rodeos currently operate within. In 1988 the NSW Code of Practice said this event should be phased out by June 1989. It has been banned in South Australia and Victoria. In an attempt to make it appear more palatable it now occurs under the name of “rope and tie” but is in fact the exactly same event. The welfare codes that the Rodeo operates under are also supposed to be reviewed every two years (The Code is based on knowledge available at the time of publication and should be reviewed at intervals of no longer than 2 years to maintain the highest possible standards). Currently they have not been reviewed for over 27 years (Last Reviewed 30 April 1988).

4.8 An animal which attempts to jump out of the chutes in a manner which may cause it to injure itself shall be released immediately

What you can do

Tormenting frightened and unwilling animals in an attempt to demonstrate the ‘brute strength’ of man is a spectacle that has no place in modern society. Please join other caring Australians who object to animal abuse by pledging never to support these cruel events.

  • Click here to sign the pledge to ‘Say No to Rodeos’, and ask your family and friends to do the same!
  • Write to your local MP or local council, as well as your local newspaper, stating the facts about the cruelty of rodeos and why they should be banned (Note: Rodeos are permitted in all States, and the NT, but not in the ACT).
  • Write to rodeo sponsors. Rodeos would not be financially viable without sponsors. If you see signs advertising Rodeos that mention sponsors, write to them and let them know why they shouldn’t be supporting these events.

Share the truth about Australian piggeries with consumers

No.1 Wally's Piggery Exposed

By Chris Delforce, www.aussiepigs.com

Two activists have been charged in relation to the gathering of footage and photographs of piggeries exposed on www.aussiepigs.com.

Over the next few months we’ll be going back through all 38 as a tribute to every animal who suffered and died needlessly at the hands of this merciless and barbaric industry. Please comment. Please share. Please help us bring these stories to the attention of those responsible – not the farmers, but the consumers, those who unknowingly fund it all.

This campaign is not about reform, this campaign is not about the worst of the worst; this campaign is about the legal, industry-standard cruelty inflicted every day upon millions of pigs across Australia, from their birth into confinement through to the carbon dioxide gas filling their lungs or the electric current shooting through their brain. This campaign is about every life selfishly taken in the name of profit.

Our philosophy from the start has been that any good person who learns the truth will choose to no longer support it. That this industry relies upon secrecy and misconceptions. Please, help us to break that secrecy down, to be the light in the darkest corners of our country.

And so we begin with the one that started it all: Wally’s Piggery, just outside of Canberra.
www.aussiepigs.com/piggeries/wally

Pigs living in their own waste or amongst their dead brothers and sisters, kicked or thrown through the aisles, their tails cut off and their teeth clipped without pain relief, the mothers caged for weeks on end, and the occasional few bludgeoned with a sledgehammer and their throats hacked with a knife inside the makeshift slaughter room.

It was a two-month long investigation using hidden cameras positioned inside the main farrowing shed and the slaughter room. The police, DPI and RSPCA were notified as soon as enough evidence had been obtained, and a joint raid was carried out on Friday 3 August, which would have caught Wally red-handed inside his slaughter room had he not been tipped off by the DPI.

Late that evening, the Aussie Pigs website and Facebook page were launched, followed the next night by a nationwide story on ABC TV News.

It was the most comprehensive insight into this industry in its history, and quite rightly the Australian public were outraged. Rallies were held, a petition calling for the piggery’s closure reached over 20000 signatures, and the piggery operators were receiving endless phone calls expressing anger and disgust from around the world. Eventually, the pressure became too much to handle; the breeding stopped and gradually the remaining pigs were sent to slaughter until a visit by activists in May 2013 confirmed that the farm had ceased operation.

Meanwhile, RSPCA NSW were dragging their feet, demanding activists expose their identities while refusing to seek indemnity for them. The multitude of stories coming forward about the piggery owners indicated a violent reprisal was likely. The day before the statute of limitations on RSPCA’s own evidence from their raid was to expire, pressure from Animal Liberation NSW forced their hand, and 53 charges were laid against the owners.

These charges were later dropped after Katrina Hodgkinson, then NSW Minister for Primary Industries, threatened to remove RSPCA’s inspection and prosecution powers.

Following the initial release of the footage and photos, the industry’s peak body, Australian Pork Limited (APL), chose to distance themselves from it, through condemnation and an assurance that Wally was a “rogue operator” who did not represent their industry’s standards, not realising that such a statement would be the catalyst for a long-overdue investigation into exactly what those standards were.

Sign Petition Against Australian Live Exports (including 90,000 Dairy Cows per annum)

https://voiceless.campaigncentral.com.au/campaign/dairyloophole

Imagine being forcibly removed from your home, and loaded onto a large ship. The voyage is torture. What will happen to you once you arrive? No one knows.  Now imagine doing this all while pregnant.

Every year, the Australian dairy industry sends over 90,000 dairy cows and heifers alive to foreign countries. Unlike most animals who are slaughtered for their meat, these live export victims are sent to be used for their milk and to grow foreign dairy herds.  Even though they are exposed to the same risks and suffering as animals exported live for slaughter, animals who are exported for breeding are excluded even from the most basic live export standards once they reach their destination.

This is the dairy ‘legal loophole’.  Once these sentient creatures disembark from a live export vessel, they have zero protection under Australian law.  What’s more, a dairy cow can suffer throughout this whole process while pregnant, with no legal protection and an uncertain future awaiting her and her calf overseas.  The Government says it is too hard to protect these animals. We say it’s time to end the live export trade in dairy cows.

Please sign the petition to end live exports today:  https://voiceless.campaigncentral.com.au/campaign/dairyloophole

Crowdfund the Aussie Farms Repository

Aussie Farms RepositoryThe Aussie Farms Repository is a public repository/gallery for videos, photos, documents and campaign materials (fliers, posters, etc); a knowledgebase; and a centre for innovative and creative tools, relating to the animal rights movement in Australia. We believe that between all of us, we have tonnes of visual evidence of animal cruelty and exploitation, a lot of which might just be gathering dust because it doesn’t fit any particular campaigns, or otherwise isn’t getting out there to the public who need to see it.

The Repository aims to bring all of this evidence together so that we can all freely view, share, and use it in our efforts towards a common goal. Any time an individual or organisation wants to raise awareness about a particular issue, they’ll be able to find the most recent and most relevant evidence or materials, and because it’s a 100% Australian project, the myth that “it doesn’t happen here” will be well and truly defeated.

Any group or individual who obtains evidence will have a nationwide distribution platform that will allow them to achieve the greatest reach for their findings, in the most effective and efficient manner possible.

The Repository will not take credit for any published items, and takes security and anonymity very seriously. Anyone who wishes to upload items can do so without providing their name or other contact details; when creating a profile, you can choose to have an anonymous username, or your real individual name, or the name of the organisation you are representing. Any sensitive data you do provide is automatically encrypted before being stored in our secure database. No IP addresses or access logs are stored.

Anything that gets uploaded, unless it comes from a reputable organisation such as the various Animal Liberation groups, will be screened by the Aussie Farms Repository team before being published to ensure nothing malicious, deceptive or irrelevant slips through the cracks.

We believe that it is possible to end commercialised animal exploitation in Australia – but only by working together, sharing our work, and leaving no stone unturned.

By Chenoa Wilson, Vegan from Canberra

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share with you all about a tour my partner and I just did through northern India. The company is called vegvoyages and they do entirely vegan tours in India and SE Asia! We had such an amazing time with like-minded people. Thought it might interest some of you, especially as it takes away the worry of finding food and avoiding animal exploitative activities.
As part of the tour we also volunteered for a week at Animal Aid in Udaipur. It was an incredible experience and our tour group decided to try and fundraise the money for a month’s worth of medicine for them. If you feel like you could spare something for them we’d be very appreciative. This is the fundraiser link http://tinyurl.com/nlyljh3
and their website is www.animalaidunlimited.com if you’d like to see what they do.

About the Movie: Cowspiracy: the film that environmental organizations don’t want you to see!

“Cowspiracy may be the most important film made to inspire saving the planet.”  — Louie Psihoyos, Oscar-Winning Director of “The Cove”

“A documentary that will rock and inspire the environmental movement.”  — Darren Aronofsky, Director of “Noah” and “Black Swan”

“Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary [about] the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.

Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean “dead zones,” and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged.

As Andersen approaches leaders in the environmental movement, he increasingly uncovers what appears to be an intentional refusal to discuss the issue of animal agriculture, while industry whistleblowers and watchdogs warn him of the risks to his freedom and even his life if he dares to persist.

As eye-opening as Blackfish and as inspiring as An Inconvenient Truth, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet, and offers a path to global sustainability for a growing population. “

Sign the petition to protect animal rights activists who show the truth

By Kathy Divine

Today Chris Delforce, the award-winning director of the documentary ‘Lucent‘ was issued with a search warrant. The police seized his computers and phone. Mr Delforce is not a criminal, he is a compassionate, caring member of our society.

Police should spend their time chasing actual criminals, not animal-loving citizens. People that care for the wellbeing of animals are heroes not criminals. If you agree please sign this petition and share it with your friends. If we stay silent on this issue, they will win.

Animal activists bringing to light the gross cruelty occurring on farms around the world are doing so because there are grave injustices happening to animals and the world needs to know about it.
