How do I go Vegan?

Far from being restrictive, many find that when they go Vegan, they suddenly have a greater appreciation for what they eat and a whole of food opened up to them (as the joyful video below shows).

Being vegan is much easier than you may think!

Being vegan is not difficult in today’s world. In Australia, where most of us have access to fresh and affordable fruit and vegetables, as well as an abundant range of grains, legumes and pulses, nuts and seeds, a healthy vegan diet is very achievable.

You’ll be amazed by how much better you feel, healthier you become and the delicious cruelty-free food you open yourself up to!

Pulses and legumes are nutritional powerhouses and make for simple, tasty and low-cost meals. Quinoa is now grown in Australia, offering a great source of complete protein.

Many recipes can be adapted to be vegan. Quiche can be made with tofu rather than eggs, scrambled tofu makes a delicious alternative to scrambled eggs, and in baking, eggs are easily substituted with banana, apple sauce or flour-based egg replacer. Dairy milk can be readily replaced with soy, almond or oat milk.

A variety of vegan convenience foods are now sold in mainstream supermarkets, including vegan sausages, roasts, burgers, chocolates, sweets and ice cream. In health food shops and speciality stores you can find vegan bacon, pepperoni, cheeses, sausage rolls, pies – the list is vast.  Vegan Easy provides a list of food additives to watch out for.
