Just wanted to say a huge shout out to everyone who came all the way out to A Place of Peace for a working bee, and made such a difference on Saturday. It was such a beautiful group of big -hearted souls, and we were so very grateful for the help. You are all awesome!!
Thank you to Billie Dean, Andrew and Tamsin for everything you do for the animals and of course for your warmth and hospitality towards the volunteers at the Vegan ACT working bee for A Place of Peace Sanctuary on Saturday.
We felt honoured to lend a hand for a day!
Signal Hill Sanctuary is a place of refuge for exploited, abused, neglected and abandoned animals generally regarded as ‘farm animals’. It is set on 200 acres of pasture and natural bushland near the Yass River in NSW.
It exists to provide refuge, safety and a voice to farmed animals suffering, or at risk from, exploitation, abuse, neglect or abandonment. This sanctuary is run by one amazing human, Kris, and we are so glad to be able to connect the Vegan ACT community with her invaluable work.
Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported the previous fundraising garage sales (from late 2015 to now). So far, we’ve raised over $1500 for local sanctuaries and aim to have the next one for Whisker Woods Sanctuary later in the year. The garage sales not only raise much needed funds to provide care for the rescued animals and in turn support these sanctuaries to further educate the public, we also hand out sanctuary flyers with all purchases and often have conversations about veganism. Please think about donating any unneeded items, thank you. For the animals.
The volunteers raked and wheelbarrowed, cleaned shelters, laid down fresh bedding, turned a paddock of branches into firewood and more, while Bede got around to jobs that required his attention. It was rewarding to know we’d helped make that to do list a little bit shorter.
Thanks to Ali, Mark, Rob, Ashleigh, Anthony, Shree, Gareth, Sue and both Michelles for volunteering today, to lend a hand for these animals, including the amazing Bede: the Human of A Poultry Place.
If you would like to make sure you hear about upcoming opportunities to volunteer in various ways, sign up to our newsletter at http://veganact.org.au/events/ or email email@example.com

Message from Billie Dean:We are so incredibly grateful and pleased and happy for everyone that it was such a resounding success. Huge thanks from us for everyone who contributed. in all the ways you did. The money raised will go to hay and animal feed, which is of higher need again thanks to the extended hot dry weather. I also note it rained after the stall was all packed up — so thanks for that too !!! You are all incredible — thank you so so much xx
